How to Read a Degree Audit
Declare a Minor
Meet With Your Advisor
Prepare For Your Advising Appointment
Complete a Transient Form

The degree audit is not your official UCF transcript. It is a map to show what courses you must pass to graduate. It gives you important information including: 1) your overall and UCF GPA 2) the courses required for your degree, 3) the courses you have passed, failed or repeated, 4) the courses you must still complete, and 5) how everything you have taken, or registered for, counts towards graduation. You can get a SASS degree audit at any time from your academic advisor, or you can print one from your MyUCF account ( my.ucf.edu ).

The following steps will help you read and understand a degree audit:

  • Make sure your degree information, at the top of your audit, is correct. If not, fill out a change of major form and turn it in at the Registrar's office (Millican Hall room 161).
  • Quickly scan Section 2, " General Education Program ". Any groups listed with a (-) must be satisfied. Remember that you have a two-history-course sequence to complete GEP requirement #4. To find out which specific course in each group your major requires consult the UCF General Education Program section of your major in the UCF catalog. Once all requirements in the section are complete the heading would read "OK".
  • Scan the " UCF University-Wide Foreign Language Requirement " section. This section indicates if you have met the foreign language graduation requirement for your major. Students who may have met the university foreign language admission requirement may still need college-level foreign language proficiency to graduate.
  • The next section may list " Common Program Prerequisites ". Usually these courses are taken prior to courses in your major and within the first 60 semester hours. Any courses with a (-) must be taken and passed.
  • The " Core Requirements " are listed after the "Common Program Prerequisites". These are required courses for the major. Any courses with a (-) must be taken and passed before graduation.
  • Following the "Core Requirements" is the " Upper Division Restricted Elective " section. These are selective 3000- 4000 level elective courses. See your catalog or your college advisor for a list of these courses to choose from.
  • Following the course work required for your major, your degree audit will list any deficiencies you have for the " Gordon Rule Requirement ". You must complete 4 composition or writing courses (2 history, and 2 English composition) and 2 math courses. You must complete these courses with a C- ( C or better for students in catalog years 2002 and previous) or better to satisfy the Gordon Rule requirement.
  • The " CLAST " is an academic skills test. Every UCF student must meet the requirement for CLAST before they graduate. If the section reads "OK" then you have met the requirement. If it reads "NO", consult your UCF catalog or see you academic advisor for information on how to satisfy this requirement. You may be eligible to meet alternative criteria and may not have to take the CLAST test.
  • The next section reviews " Credit Hour Requirements" and "GPA" . Look here to find your:
*overall GPA (which includes any grades transferred in from another institution)
    *upper level requirement
    *UCF GPA
  • The last section will tell you if you have completed " Nine Hours of Summer Enrollment " from a 4-year Florida state university system institution. Credit earned by acceleration mechanisms applies.
