Academic advising is one of the most important services provided at UCF and can impact a student's successful progression to graduation. Every incoming Freshman is assigned a professional first-year academic advisor. First Year Advising and Exploration (FYAE) is the advising office for all Freshmen not advised by Academic Services for Student-Athletes (ASSA), Student Academic Resource Center (SARC), or Multicultural Academic and Support Services (MASS). First Year Advising and Exploration also advises any students who have not declared a major.
- Know your advisor. Our advising list has changed since Orientation. Contact the FYAE office to find out who is your advisor.
- Make an appointment. You can make an advising appointment by calling FYAE at 407-823-3789 or by coming by the office in PH 116. Pay attention to your appointment time. Write it down when you make the appointment.
- Have a plan. Print your audit from your POLARIS account (connect.ucf.edu). Use your audit to pick the classes you think you want to take, and have the advisor look over them. Don't come to the office empty handed. Your advisor is here to guide you through decisions, no t make them for you.
- Write down your questions. Writing down questions helps you remember why you have made the appointment in the first place. This also helps you use your appointment time more efficiently.
- Research. Check the catalog for requirements. If something is confusing, your advisor will be happy to clarify it for you. However, you should do the initial research to answer the questions yourself.
- Be on time. Arrive at the office on time, or even a little early. This will ensure that you will be able to spend plenty of quality time with your advisor.
