Greetings from the Director
On behalf of the FYAE advising team I congratulate you on your admission and decision to attend the University of Central Florida (UCF), the sixth largest university in the country.
Your freshman year will be filled with exciting expectations, challenges, and opportunities that will help you in your development as a new scholar and member of the UCF community. As a first year freshman student at UCF you have been assigned a professional academic advisor who will serve as your advocate and the person who will be able to best assist you in your transition to University life.
During orientation you received the Freshman Academic Advising Syllabus which was developed by your advisor to help guide you through your freshman year. We encourage you to bring that syllabus to your advising appointment and to use it as you check the advising calendar to cross out discussions you had with your first year advisor. More importantly the Freshman Academic Advising Syllabus was developed to help you understand your role and responsibilities as a new UCF student and how your academic advisor can help you achieve your educational and career goals.
During your freshman year it is important that you use the academic advising tools to help track your academic progress. Some of these include your SASS degree audit, freshman academic plans, and undergraduate catalog. I encourage you to bring these tools to your advisement appointment as well as being prepared to ask questions of your advisors.
Finally, I encourage you to meet with your advisor as often as you need and participate in the outreach programs planned for this year. Best wishes for a successful freshman year!
